MATH BEE 2023 – RULES AND INFORMATION

Test Levels:

There are 3 test levels in Online ALA Math Bee 2023 Contest. Students must participate based on their Grade, either in Level I, Level II or Level III. They are not allowed to participate in two or more levels.

        • Math Bee Level I: Grades K and 1
        • Math Bee Level II: Grades 2 and 3
        • Math Bee Level III: Grades 4 and 5

Test Format for All Levels:

      • The contest will be held in an online Zoom meeting room and the test will be administered via classmarker.com.
      • Reminder emails and SMS messages will be sent prior to the contest.
      • A pre-contest email with the details for taking the online test will be emailed 1-2 days prior to the contest. The email will include a Zoom meeting link based on the participant’s grade level and a personalized link to take the test. Please do NOT share this email. Note that the links will be different if there are participants from the same household participating in different Math Bee levels based on their grade.
      • Please ensure you have the Zoom Meeting Link and Personalized Classmarker Link for the test handy on the day of the contest.
      • The email address provided during registration will be used to send out communications about the contest. Please be sure to email beecontest@accesslifeamerica.org if you do not receive emails in a timely fashion. You may need to check your spam or promotions folders and adjust necessary settings if the emails don’t show up in your inbox.
      • Very important:
        • We will be using Zoom breakout rooms, so please make sure you have Zoom Version 5.3.0 or higher installed on your system. You will be pre-assigned to a breakout room with a proctor.
      • Students may take the test from a suitable physical location.
      • Each student should have a laptop or computer (iPads or other mobile/smart devices are NOT allowed) with sufficient resources, a stable internet connection and a working camera that must be turned on during the test. Access Life America is not liable for issues with internet connectivity or laptop/computer issues.
      • The laptop or computer must have a working audio/microphone so that the proctor can monitor the student just like at an in-person contest. Students may NOT use an artificial background and the surroundings must be visible on camera. The students entire face should be visible to the proctor. Please keep your microphone muted and send a message to proctor via chat for any issues. The proctor will unmute the participant as needed.
      • The student must be accompanied by an adult chaperone/parent who will agree to assist before the test and make sure that the student is following instructions before the test begins.
      • All students are encouraged to join the Zoom meeting 20 minutes prior to the contest. Students will be allowed into the zoom meeting 20 minutes before testing starts. When participants arrive they will be assigned to a breakout room with a proctor who will be available to assist as needed. Those who have completed the necessary steps for the test can relax and wait for the contest to start.
      • Chaperone/Parent can leave the room once setup is over, but need to be within reach in case of any technical issue.
      • Test Access Code will be given during the Zoom meeting 5 minutes before the test begins.
      • Access Life America will not be liable for any issues that may arise due to use of Zoom and Classmarker platforms.

Test Rules/Instructions for All Levels:

      • Each contestant will be administered a Multiple-Choice Test on classmarker.com.
      • Click on the Personalized Classmarker Test Link sent via email 1-2 days before the contest.
      • Enter the Access Code for the test provided in the Zoom Breakout Room.
      • If it is not pre-populated, enter the Participant’s FIRST NAME, LAST NAME, EMAIL (use email used while registering for the contest), GRADE on the test link provided.
      • Hit the “Continue” button when ready to take the test. The timer starts when you click “Continue” button.
      • Parents can leave the room at this point but need to be within reach in case of any technical issue.
      • There will be 20 questions on the test divided into 3 sections in increasing order of difficulty
      • The maximum time allocated to complete the test is 30 minutes and it has to be completed in one sitting. You cannot save and finish later.
      • Student will need to select on the correct answer from the list of choices provided. Students are expected to ensure they have selected the choices properly.
      • To move to the next question, click “Next” button at the bottom of each question.
      • During the test, you can go back and change your answers.
      • If you are not sure of an answer, please move on to the next question. The test will let you finish with some questions unattempted if you are not sure of an answer.
      • Student can use scratch paper to work out problems, pencil and eraser. Calculators are NOT allowed at any level and any cell phones must be turned off.
      • When complete with all 20 questions, click the “Finish Now” button and then “Confirm finish now” button to end the test.
      • Once the student has completed the test, student can then leave the Zoom meeting by notifying the proctor via Zoom chat.

Test Policy/Disqualification:

      • If you use a device other than a computer (such as an iPad or a phone), you are violating the rules and will be subject to disqualification and removal from the contest.
      • Screenshot, copying or any means to copy questions and answers will lead to disqualification and removal from the contest.
      • The personalized test link and zoom meeting links should not be shared. Sharing the information may lead to disqualification and removal from the contest.
      • As a chaperone/parent your job is to ensure the students are setup properly for test taking and they are complying with the rules. DO NOT interact with any student while the test is running or you will disqualify the student from the contest.
      • The Zoom meeting will be recorded and any means to get or provide assistance or cheat in the test will be flagged by the proctor. This will lead to student disqualification and removal from the contest.
      • Questions and Answers from the test will NOT be made available after grading.

Test Scoring for All Levels:

      • Individual Test scores will be made available on Access Life America website at a later date.
      • Please have the Registration/Receipt # from the registration confirmation email to lookup results when published.
      • Winners will be announced after the event.
      • The maximum score that will be awarded is 60.
      • Section 1 will have 10 questions and will carry 20% weighted score.
      • Section 2 will have 5 questions and will carry 30% weighted score.
      • Section 3 will have 5 questions and will carry 50% weighted score.
      • There will be no negative points for an incorrect answer and no partial credits will be given. If no choice is marked for a given question, no point is awarded. The decision of the grading panel at Access Life America is final.
      • Tiebreaker Rules:
        • The tiebreaker rules apply ONLY if there are at least 5 or more contestants participating and at the discretion of the grading panel. After tabulation of scores (out of a total of 60), if there is a tie, the scheme outlined below is followed in the order given, to break the ties:
          • Score among Questions 16-20 (50% weighted score)
          • Score among Questions 11-15 (30% weighted score)
          • Score among Questions 1-10 (20% weighted score)
        • If the above steps fail to break the tie in question, Access Life America may use additional measures to resolve them or award joint scores.

Awards & Certificates:

      • Based on rules/policy of the test, the judges will determine the winners. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners shall be declared at a later date. A separate Webinar link will be sent to attend the session where winners will be announced.
      • Results/Test scores for all participants will be available on our website at a later date.
      • All contestants in Access Life America Math Bee will be given a digital “Certificate of Participation” from Access Life America.
      • The certificate can be downloaded from the test submission page upon completing the test or from the email sent to the participant from classmarker.com.
      • Trophies will be presented to top 3 winners in Level I, Level II and Level III at a later date during a separate event or mailed to the address provided during registration.
